A ferry carrying 65 people capsized near Indonesia’s popular tourist island of Bali, killing at least four people, according to Al Jazeera. The KMP Tunu Pratima Jaya ferry sank approximately 30 minutes after departing Ketapang port in East Java on Wednesday night en route to Bali’s Gilimanuk port, 50 km away.
The ferry was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles, including 14 trucks. Local authorities confirmed that 23 survivors have been rescued so far, many found unconscious after being swept away by waves for a prolonged period.
Banyuwangi police chief Rama Samtama Putra confirmed the recovery of four bodies. The national search and rescue agency continues operations with nine vessels, including two tugboats and two rubber boats, deployed since Wednesday night to search for remaining passengers.
