Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti has resigned from the post of BNP’s reserved women’s seat Member of Parliament. She submitted her resignation to Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed at the Jatiya Sangsad building on Thursday, October 1, in the afternoon. In her resignation letter to the Speaker, Ferdousi Ahmed wrote, “I, the undersigned Ferdousi Ahmed, have been serving as a Member of Parliament (Reserved Women’s Seat) of the 13th National Parliament. I have fully consciously and voluntarily decided to resign from the post of Member of Parliament (Reserved Women’s Seat-23).” She added, “It is therefore my humble request that you kindly accept my resignation and take the necessary steps to give effect to it.”
Mishti stayed at the National Parliament Building for 15 minutes in the afternoon. Regarding her resignation, she said, “The Speaker called me, that’s why I met him.” She had a file in her hand when she entered the Parliament, but she left the building empty-handed. Regarding submitting her resignation letter, Mishti said, “The Speaker called me, I met him. I met and spoke to the Speaker.”
It is worth mentioning that on the night of September 24, an attack, vandalism and looting took place at the Radda MCH-FP Center in Mirpur-1. Later, the health center’s facilities were also demolished with heavy machinery. Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti has been accused of involvement in this incident. However, she has denied the allegations of her involvement in the attack and vandalism. The resignation follows the controversy surrounding the Radda Centre incident and the Prime Minister’s earlier directive for her to step down. Her departure from the reserved women’s seat marks a significant political development in the aftermath of the attack and the subsequent investigations. The Speaker is expected to take the necessary steps to formalise the resignation, and further political and legal developments are likely to follow.
