A fierce clash erupted between two groups in Ballabhpur village of Kumarkhali upazila, Kushtia, on Friday (May 30) over two coconuts that fell during a storm. At least eight people, including a woman, were injured in the altercation, which continued from morning until afternoon.
The dispute began when Swapna Khatun, wife of Anwar Biswas, picked up the fallen coconuts from a tree owned by local farmer Chanchal. When Chanchal’s aunt, Trishna Khatun, later asked for the coconuts, an argument escalated into physical violence, injuring her and another person.
Despite police complaints from both parties, tensions reignited later in the day, resulting in a second round of clashes involving knives, bamboo sticks, and wooden batons. Six more individuals were injured and some were transferred to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed the incident and said legal proceedings are underway against those involved in the violent confrontation.
