The Election Commission (EC) has issued new instructions to field officers to address cases involving National Identity Cards (NIDs) flagged as “match found” or those with fingerprint conflicts. The directive, sent by EC systems analyst Mohammad Ariful Islam on May 28, aims to streamline the resolution process.
For individuals with two NIDs, where one is active and the other marked as “match found,” officers are instructed to advise citizens to use the active NID. The inactive one will remain flagged.
In cases where a fingerprint matches another person’s NID, officers must notify the EC directly without requiring the individual to visit the District Election Office for verification.
Currently, about 200,000 NIDs on the EC server are marked as “match found.” The move is intended to reduce confusion and delays in voter identity verification.
