The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned carrying sharp weapons such as axes, knives, scissors, spears, lances, swords, and sticks, as well as bursting fireworks and crackers during the upcoming Tazia processions for Ashura on July 6.
This order, issued on Wednesday (July 2) by Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) and Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar, will remain effective from the beginning to the end of the processions.
According to the public notice, carrying such items in the Tazia processions often creates fear and panic among religious participants and city dwellers, posing a threat to public safety. The DMP also noted that setting off fireworks and crackers during Muharram is not in line with the religious solemnity of Ashura.
