Former members of the armed forces who were previously dismissed staged a protest at the National Press Club premises, demanding reinstatement, withdrawal of penalties, and financial compensation. They also shared their grievances with the media.
In response, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) issued a statement on Sunday, confirming the protest and outlining the army’s approach to addressing the situation.
A delegation from the Bangladesh Army visited the protest site and patiently listened to the former personnel’s demands, assuring them that their cases would be reviewed according to army rules and regulations. The delegation also advised protesters to submit their appeals directly to the appropriate authorities, rather than through third-party platforms.
The ISPR noted that the army had already received 802 applications for redressal, of which 106 have been resolved. The remaining are currently under review with “humanitarian consideration”.
However, the ISPR expressed concern over unruly behavior during the protest. While earlier meetings had been peaceful, a group of dismissed personnel obstructed the delegation’s vehicle, hurled projectiles, and shouted abusive slogans. As tensions escalated, law enforcement was compelled to intervene and disperse the crowd.
The ISPR emphasized that provocative acts and actions harmful to the image of the armed forces are unacceptable. The Bangladesh Army reiterated its commitment to addressing grievances with empathy, discipline, and constitutional responsibility, urging all involved to act responsibly and lawfully.
