Md Shah Poran, the younger brother of Fozor Ali, circulated a video of a woman’s assault and torture in Cumilla’s Muradnagar upazila on social media to take revenge against his brother, according to a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) press briefing on Friday.
RAB-11 arrested Shah Poran, identified as the main planner, from Kabila Bazar in Burichang upazila on Thursday. A mobile phone used to spread the footage was also seized.
RAB said the incident stemmed from a previous quarrel between the brothers where Fozor had slapped Poran during village arbitration. Seeking revenge, Poran allegedly mobilised villagers through Imo. On the night of the assault, Fozor entered the victim’s house under the pretext of collecting loan interest, after which Poran and others broke in, beat and assaulted the woman, and forced Fozor to join. The attackers recorded the scene and circulated the video online, sparking outrage.
The victim’s family filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and Pornography Control Act. Six suspects, including Fozor, have been arrested so far.
