Liverpool’s Portuguese forward Diogo Jota has died in a car accident, leaving the football world in mourning. Jota was driving with his brother Andre on the A-52 highway in Zamora, Spain, when their car skidded off the road, killing both brothers instantly.
Cristiano Ronaldo, devastated by the loss of his national teammate, expressed his grief on social media, writing, “This doesn’t make any sense. We played together in the national team, you recently got married.” He extended his condolences to Jota’s wife and children, adding, “My condolences to your family, your wife and your children and I wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diego and Andre. We will all miss you.”
Jota had married his longtime girlfriend, Ruth Cardoso, just 10 days before the accident. They have three children. During his career, Jota won the Premier League with Liverpool, lifted the FA Cup in 2021-22, and secured two Nations League titles with Portugal.
