Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive Damaged by Tidal Waves and Heavy Rain Amid Deep Depression

The Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road has suffered significant erosion after two days of heavy rainfall and high tidal waves triggered by a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.

According to local residents and officials, around 100 meters of the road near Bahar Chhara Ghat in Teknaf Sadar Union collapsed due to powerful wave impacts, putting the scenic Marine Drive at risk of further damage and potential communication breakdown.

The geo bags placed for erosion protection were torn apart by wave pressure during high tide, worsening the situation. Local leaders and Teknaf’s Upazila Executive Officer confirmed the damage and reported the incident to the Engineering Corps of the Bangladesh Army, which oversees the road’s maintenance. Urgent intervention is being sought to prevent further erosion and preserve connectivity in the area.
