Court Bans 20 High-Profile Individuals, Including Ex-Minister and Journalist, from Leaving Bangladesh Amid ACC Probe

A Dhaka court has barred 20 individuals, including former Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, ex-Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, and senior journalist Munni Saha, from leaving the country as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) intensifies investigations into alleged illicit wealth accumulation and money laundering.

The order was issued on Tuesday, June 3, by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib after reviewing seven applications submitted by the ACC.

Among those facing the travel ban are former Feni-3 MP Masud Uddin Chowdhury, former Jessore-6 MP Md. Shahin Chaklader, former minister Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam and his family members, Farhad Hossain’s wife Syeda Monalisa Islam, and several business associates tied to the S. Alam Group and First Security Islami Bank.

The ACC is investigating these individuals for allegedly amassing wealth beyond their known income sources and transferring funds abroad through corrupt practices. The court approved the ban to ensure the integrity and fairness of the ongoing investigation.
