Coast Guard Recovers Stolen Goods, Arrests Chief Engineer Over Fake Robbery at Mongla Port

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has recovered stolen machinery from the commercial vessel MV Senjuti at Mongla Seaport and arrested three individuals, including the ship’s chief engineer Md. Sirajul Haque. The robbery, initially reported as a pirate attack, was found to be an inside job orchestrated due to unpaid salaries and allowances for the crew over the past 6-7 months. The other two arrested are suspected robber Sumon Howlader and stolen goods buyer Md. Gumon Hossain. Recovered items include engine parts, batteries, and chargers. The Coast Guard confirmed that the ship’s crew, frustrated with the owners, collaborated with local criminals to loot and sell the ship’s parts. Investigations are ongoing into the owner’s negligence and possible further involvement in the staged heist.
