Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Yao Wen, dismissed recent claims by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency suggesting that China plans to build military bases in Bangladesh and other countries. Speaking at an event on May 28, he labeled the report as baseless and reaffirmed that Beijing prioritizes friendly relations over military ambitions. Bangladesh’s interim Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain also stated he had no knowledge of such a report. The U.S. document had listed 16 countries, including Bangladesh, where China allegedly seeks to expand the PLA’s infrastructure, a claim strongly refuted by Chinese officials.
