Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Beijing on Tuesday (May 20). The meeting took place following a four-day India-Pakistan standoff over a gun attack in Pahalgam, occupied Kashmir, which ended with a ceasefire.
Wang Yi emphasized that China welcomes efforts by both Pakistan and India to address their differences through dialogue, and referred to Pakistan as an “ironclad friend.” He pledged to deepen the all-round strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.
Ishaq Dar, in return, expressed gratitude for China’s steadfast support and highlighted the strength of the bilateral relationship. The two sides exchanged views on South Asia’s evolving dynamics, future directions for Pakistan-China ties, and the development of CPEC 2.0 (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor).
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, both leaders reached a consensus on all key issues and committed to furthering cooperation for regional peace, development, and stability.
Earlier in the visit, Dar also held talks with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), as part of his three-day official visit to Beijing amid heightened regional tensions.
