China has urged the international community to permanently end the historical injustices faced by the Palestinian people and reiterated its call for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders. The appeal was made during a United Nations event marking Nakba Day, which commemorates the displacement of Palestinians following the establishment of Israel in 1948.
Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to the UN Geng Shuang said that the suffering of Palestinians, which began 77 years ago, remains unresolved and has only deepened over time. “The historical injustices against the Palestinian people have not only persisted—they have intensified,” he stated.
A statement from China’s mission to the UN condemned Israel’s continued blockade of Gaza, which has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis affecting two million people. Since March 2, Israel has restricted access to food, medicine, and aid, further exacerbating conditions in the besieged territory. Geng also denounced the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and rising violence from settlers, which he said undermines the viability of a two-state solution.
According to reports, nearly 53,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed in Gaza since Israeli military operations escalated in October 2023.
Geng called on Israel to abide by relevant UN resolutions and comply with the International Court of Justice’s interim measures and advisory opinions. He also urged influential global powers to adopt a neutral stance and take meaningful action to de-escalate the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
Reaffirming China’s position, Geng expressed strong support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty and East Jerusalem as its capital. “China will work tirelessly alongside all peace-loving nations to implement the two-state solution and pursue a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian question—so that Nakba becomes a memory of the past, never to be repeated,” he said.
