Vehicular movement on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway resumed on Wednesday evening after nearly nine hours of blockade by students protesting alleged police attacks. The students, part of the anti-discrimination movement, withdrew their demonstration around 7 PM after receiving assurance from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.
The protest, supported by National Citizen Party (NCP) activists, demanded the removal of three police officials, including Chattogram SP Saiful Islam Shanto and Patiya Police Station OC Abu Zahid Md Nazmun Noor. The students also laid siege to Patiya Police Station and later demonstrated in front of the DIG’s office. The Bangladesh Army intervened, requesting protesters to withdraw, after which students issued a 12-hour ultimatum for their demands and cleared the highway.
