Popular Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury, known for his work in film and television, has found himself at the center of controversy after being named in an attempted murder case filed by Enamul Haque of Bhatara Police Station on April 28, alongside 17 other actors. The case is reportedly linked to actors who were allegedly aligned with the previous government and opposed the ongoing anti-discrimination movement.
Following the recent arrest of actress Nusrat Faria—who was detained at Dhaka airport while en route to Thailand in connection with the same case—Chanchal has reportedly canceled a scheduled trip to India, fueling speculation that he fears potential arrest. Indian media outlets, including News18 and TV Nine Bangla, reported that Chanchal was expected to attend an award ceremony in Kolkata but has since withdrawn, citing either personal reasons or concerns over legal implications.
Despite the legal uncertainties, Chanchal Chowdhury continues to enjoy widespread popularity in both Bangladesh and West Bengal. His performances in ‘Hawa,’ ‘Tufan,’ and as Mrinal Sen in ‘Padatik’ by Srijit Mukherjee have earned him acclaim on both sides of the border.
Nusrat Faria, who was arrested and later granted bail on May 20, was sent to Kashimpur Jail before being released. Her arrest has reportedly created widespread anxiety within the entertainment industry, with other actors such as Apu Biswas and Jyotika Jyoti also fearing legal consequences.
