Caution Raised at Cox’s Bazar as Deep Clouds Form Over Bay; Tourists Advised to Stay Alert

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 for Cox’s Bazar seaport following the development of deep convective clouds over the North Bay of Bengal and nearby areas, warning of possible squally winds and unstable weather conditions.

Md Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar office, confirmed the alert on Thursday afternoon. He stated that light to moderate rainfall is likely along the coast and may persist for the next 2 to 3 days. A low-pressure system—or even a weak cyclonic storm—could form in the Bay around May 26 to 28.

The BMD warned that under the influence of these cloud formations, squally winds could impact the North Bay, coastal regions, and seaports. As a safety measure, all fishing boats and trawlers have been instructed to remain close to shore and proceed with caution.

Red and yellow warning flags have been raised at Cox’s Bazar sea beach to alert the public. Despite the warnings, many tourists continue to enter the water for bathing. Lifeguards, beach workers, and tourist police are actively monitoring the situation to ensure visitor safety.
