Indian Border Security Force (BSF) forcibly pushed 23 Bangladeshi nationals into Bangladesh through the Kushkhali border in Satkhira’s sadar upazila on Tuesday, according to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials. The group, which includes seven women, seven men, and nine children, was detained by BGB and later transferred to the 33rd BGB Battalion headquarters.
The individuals, mostly from Kurigram and one from Jhalokathi, had reportedly worked in a brick kiln in Haryana, India, before being arrested by Indian police on May 15. One of the detainees, Jabed Hossain, stated they were held and tortured for 10 days before being pushed across the border.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station has taken custody of the group and plans to release them to their families once verification is complete. Reports suggest more Bangladeshi nationals remain detained near the border.
