All boat traffic on Kaptai Lake in Rangamati has been suspended until further notice due to turbulent weather caused by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The announcement was made in an urgent notice issued by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah on Friday, May 30, following the Inland River Port Authority’s issuance of a level 2 naval warning.
The suspension affects travel between Rangamati district headquarters and six upazilas—Baghaichhari, Langadu, Barkal, Jurachhari, Bilaichhari, and Naniarchar—where water transport is a primary means of travel. The halt has caused significant hardship for locals, though authorities have confirmed that boat services will resume once weather conditions stabilize.
