BNP Standing Committee member Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Saturday urged the Chief Advisor and Advisory Council to resolve the country’s ongoing political impasse, warning that Bangladesh is once again facing new and serious challenges.
Speaking at a discussion on “Development of Bhola District” organized by the Island District Bhola Citizen Unity Forum at the National Press Club, Hafiz criticized the interim government’s silence on elections, stating, “I hear speeches from the advisors, but they don’t talk about elections—they talk about worldly things. If people vote BNP into power, is that a crime?”
He emphasized that democracy has been out of reach for 17 years and accused the Awami League of destroying the economy, turning Bangladesh into a “colony,” and amassing wealth abroad. Hafiz claimed that after nine months in power, the interim government has neither filed charge sheets nor taken concrete action beyond rhetoric.
Questioning the contributions of the current advisory council, he accused them of failing to address the needs of the people and criticized efforts to malign political parties that have historically stood by citizens in times of crisis.
The event was presided over by Forum Convener Md. Noor Morshed and moderated by Md. Mostafa, with additional remarks from former MP Nazim Uddin Alam, BNP central committee member Haider Ali, and Forum founder Abdul Malek.
