The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has urged the reconstitution of the interim government’s advisory council by removing what it describes as “controversial” advisors, to uphold neutrality and public confidence in the transitional administration.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain made the statement Saturday night following a meeting with Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna. He emphasized that the core responsibility of the interim government is to ensure a credible election that can restore democracy.
Dr. Mosharraf said BNP leaders and activists endured the greatest hardship under the previous Awami League government and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to pursuing justice—either under the current administration or, if necessary, through an independent judiciary after returning to power.
He noted that the BNP submitted a written statement outlining their demands and expectations during the meeting, citing a lack of prior notice about the discussion agenda.
Reiterating the party’s call for a clear and immediate election roadmap, he warned that further delays would be interpreted by the public as a threat to democracy and an invitation to authoritarianism. He clarified that BNP has never demanded the resignation of the Chief Advisor, but rather has extended support to help ensure a fair electoral process.
