BNP Calls for Election by December, Urges Reforms Within 30 Days

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has reaffirmed its demand for essential electoral reforms to be completed within 30 days and for the next national election to be held by December 2025. Following a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on June 2, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed stated that most political parties present backed the proposal for a December election.

Salahuddin emphasized that reforms not requiring constitutional amendments could be implemented immediately through executive action. He insisted there is no valid reason to delay the election and expressed optimism that political will and consensus could expedite the process.

He also voiced confidence that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus would act impartially in considering the collective stance shared by participating parties.

While acknowledging that full agreement across all political groups may be unlikely, Salahuddin stressed that constructive dialogue would pave the way for national consensus. The BNP’s statement adds momentum to the push for a clear electoral roadmap and increases pressure on the interim government to fast-track critical reforms.
