Biman Flight Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Dhaka After Rear Wheel Detaches

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying 71 passengers, including a child, made a safe emergency landing at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday afternoon after losing one of its rear wheels shortly after takeoff from Cox’s Bazar.

Flight BG 436, operated by a Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, departed Cox’s Bazar at 1:20 PM. Soon after takeoff, the pilot, Captain Billah, alerted Dhaka Air Traffic Control of a technical issue and requested an emergency landing.

Emergency protocols were swiftly activated at the capital’s airport. Fire service units and an engineering team were deployed along the runway as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely at 2:22 PM, with all passengers unharmed.

“Our engineering team was on standby in Dhaka, and the pilot executed a successful landing on the first attempt,” said ABM Rowshon Kabir, General Manager (Public Relations) of Biman.

Aviation experts from the airline stated that while the aircraft could technically land with a missing rear wheel, it required careful handling under emergency conditions to ensure safety.

The incident avoided what could have been a major accident, drawing praise for the pilot’s composure and the airport’s rapid emergency response.
