For the first time, the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) marked World Milk Day 2025 with a series of vibrant events under the theme “Let’s Celebrate the Power of Dairy.” The celebration aimed to highlight the critical role of veterinary science in dairy development and public health.
The day began with a colorful rally from the Veterinary Faculty Building, followed by milk distribution to 500 children from a local school and orphanage. A seminar and poster competition further enriched the event, with 15 student teams showcasing innovative ideas related to the dairy sector.
Presided over by Acting Dean Professor Dr. Farida Yeasmin Bari, the seminar featured insights from industry and academic leaders, including keynote speaker Professor Dr. Mst. Minara Khatun and special guest Dr. Mohammad Abdul Latif of BRAC AI Enterprise. Speakers emphasized the vital need for safe, high-quality milk and called for greater veterinary involvement in ensuring animal health, certification, and food safety.
The event also addressed the gap between Bangladesh’s current per capita milk availability (234.45 ml) and the WHO’s recommended 250 ml, urging increased focus on dairy productivity and safety to meet both domestic needs and export standards.
Alongside the Veterinary Faculty’s inaugural observance, the Department of Dairy Science under BAU’s Faculty of Animal Husbandry continued its tradition of celebrating World Milk Day with enthusiasm and community engagement.
