Bangladesh’s economy recorded a 4.50 percent growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal year (FY26), supported by moderate performances across the agriculture, industry, and services sectors, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). This marks a significant improvement from the 2.58 percent growth posted in the same period of FY25.
The strongest momentum came from the industrial sector, which grew by 6.97 percent during July–September FY26, nearly doubling its 3.59 percent expansion in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The services sector, which contributes more than half of the economy, also showed steady progress with 3.67 percent growth, up from 2.96 percent a year earlier.
Agriculture experienced slower growth at 2.30 percent, though it still improved on last year’s performance. Revised BBS figures show quarterly growth in FY25 at 2.58 percent, 4.44 percent, 5.33 percent and 2.47 percent respectively, resulting in an overall GDP growth rate of 3.72 percent for the fiscal year.
