A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) during an alleged gold smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border at Haldarpara in West Bengal’s Nadia district around midnight on Tuesday (July 1). The BSF stated that a group of 4-5 armed smugglers crossed the river from Bangladesh into India and ignored warnings to stop. When the smugglers attacked a BSF personnel, his colleague fired in self-defense, hitting one smuggler in the lower abdomen. He later died at Krishnaganj Hospital.
The BSF recovered sharp weapons and a cutter from the scene, claiming the deceased was part of a gold smuggling gang. An FIR has been registered at Krishnaganj police station, and the incident remains under investigation. The deceased’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
