Bangladesh Urges Global Cooperation to Recover Laundered Assets from Developing Countries

At the 22nd session of the High-Level Committee on South-South Cooperation held at the UN Headquarters, Bangladesh called for greater international collaboration in recovering assets laundered from developing nations. The appeal was made by Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN, on Tuesday, May 27.

Ambassador Salahuddin emphasized that global political will is essential for ensuring justice and rebuilding trust in asset recovery efforts. He also urged that international support and benefits for countries transitioning from Least Developed Country (LDC) status be phased out gradually to ensure a stable and sustainable transition.

Highlighting the importance of social entrepreneurship, the ambassador noted that self-generated resources are key to securing citizens’ rights in health, education, food security, and renewable energy. He further stressed the need to invest in youth, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and education to drive development.

Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to South-South cooperation, Ambassador Salahuddin concluded with a vision of a fair and inclusive world built on the principles of Zero Poverty, Zero Emission, and Zero Exclusion.
