Bangladesh received $922 million in remittances during the first 11 days of May 2025, marking a 13.3% year-on-year increase compared to $814 million during the same period last year, according to data from Bangladesh Bank.
From July 2024 to May 11, 2025, total remittance inflows have reached $25.46 billion—up significantly from $19.93 billion during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year—reflecting strong growth in external income.
The rise follows a series of government measures aimed at boosting remittance through formal channels, including increased incentives, reduced transaction fees, and stronger enforcement against illegal hundi operations.
Economists see the upward trend as a positive signal for Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves and overall economic stability, particularly as the country gears up for graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status while managing external debt and rising import costs.
