Bangladesh Eyes ODI Ranking Boost in Series Against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh will have an opportunity to improve their ODI ranking as they face Sri Lanka in a three-match series starting Wednesday at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Currently ranked 10th—their lowest position in 19 years—Bangladesh can move up to ninth if they win at least one match against fourth-ranked Sri Lanka. Starting the series with 76 rating points, a single win would lift them past West Indies, who hold ninth place with 77 points. Winning two matches would keep Bangladesh at ninth with 78 points and push Sri Lanka down to fifth. Even with a series whitewash, Bangladesh would rise only to 83 points, still behind eighth-ranked England with 88. Once a consistent top-seven ODI side, Bangladesh has slipped in the rankings due to inconsistent performances over the last two years.
