Bangladesh Eyes 50,000-Ton Mango Export Target Amid Global Demand Surge

Bangladesh’s mangoes are gaining increasing global demand due to their superior taste and quality, but export limitations remain a challenge, said Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian. Speaking at an event titled “Inauguration of Safe Mango Marketing Following Good Agricultural Practices” on May 30 in Dhaka, he noted that although the country currently exports mangoes to 38 countries—including a resumed shipment to China—last year’s exports totaled only 1,300 tons.

The secretary emphasized ambitions to boost mango exports to 50,000 tons, stressing the need for compliance with importers’ safety and quality regulations. “We’re working to overcome export barriers and improve production and marketing through good agricultural practices,” he said, referencing several ongoing ministry projects and a recent inter-ministerial meeting to address long-standing issues such as customs delays.

Dr. Mian also noted ongoing scientific efforts to enhance the appearance and shelf-life of Bangladeshi mangoes to meet international expectations while preserving their renowned flavor.

The event was attended by key agricultural officials, including DAE Director General Md. Chaiful Alam and BJRI Director General Nargis Akhter.
