Bangladesh Expects $3.3 Billion in Budget Support by June, Including IMF Tranches

The Ministry of Finance announced Wednesday that Bangladesh anticipates receiving approximately $3.3 billion in loan support from international development partners by June 2025. This includes $1.3 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the fourth and fifth tranches under its ongoing loan program.

The funds, allocated as budget support, aim to bolster foreign currency reserves and stabilize the exchange rate. The IMF disbursement follows successful completion of its fourth review and continued discussions during the World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings in April. Key policy reforms agreed upon include improvements in revenue management and the exchange rate regime.

In addition to the IMF, other expected contributors include the World Bank, ADB, AIIB, Japan, and the OPEC Fund, collectively providing around $2 billion. The Finance Ministry emphasized that while reform conditions are part of the agreements, they are guided by Bangladesh’s national interests and socio-economic priorities, with technical support from development partners.
