Bangladesh Bank Orders Extended Banking Hours Near Cattle Markets Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

To support smooth financial transactions during the peak trading period ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Bank has directed branches near cattle markets in Dhaka and Chittagong to remain open from 10 AM to 10 PM starting June 3 until the day before Eid.

According to a circular issued on May 29 by the Banking Regulations and Policies Department, commercial banks must also set up temporary booths at market locations to offer services such as cash deposits, withdrawals, and account openings. The initiative aims to ensure secure and transparent cash handling during the festival’s high-volume trade period.

The extended hours will apply to key market areas in Dhaka North and South City Corporations and Chittagong City Corporation, including Uttara, Gabtoli, Mohammadpur, Mirpur-6, Khilgaon, Kamalapur, and Sagarika, among others. Evening banking has been specifically encouraged to accommodate the needs of cattle traders and buyers.
