Bangladesh Bank has introduced a mandatory dress code for all officers and employees to promote a more professional and respectful workplace environment. Issued by the Human Resources Division-2 on July 21, the directive outlines specific attire rules for both male and female staff and warns that non-compliance will lead to disciplinary measures.
For male employees, the dress code mandates formal shirts and pants, along with formal shoes or sandals. Jeans and gabardine pants are explicitly prohibited.
For female employees, the guidelines require modest and professional attire, including sarees, salwar-kameez, veils, or similarly appropriate clothing. Short sleeves, long dresses, leggings, and brightly colored or flashy outfits are discouraged. Women must wear plain sandals or shoes and, if applicable, modest headscarves or hijabs.
Beyond dress, the circular reinforces expectations around workplace conduct. It cites Bangladesh Bank’s Staff Regulation 2003 on behavior toward female colleagues and outlines procedures for reporting sexual harassment within 30 days. Employees are also reminded to follow internal policies on social media use and uphold core values such as honesty, punctuality, discipline, and respectful behavior.
Each department or unit will assign a designated officer to monitor compliance. Any violations will be reported to department heads, and disciplinary action will be taken against those who fail to adhere to the rules.
