Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office on Thursday to discuss Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections. BNP leaders Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Shama Obaid were also present.
After the meeting, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury told journalists that voters and political parties want stability and disciplined elections, emphasizing BNP’s commitment to reforms outlined in its 2030 vision. He noted discussions focused on electoral preparations and the lack of voting rights exercised by Bangladeshis in recent elections, particularly among the younger generation.
Khasru expressed hope for strong voter turnout in the next election and confirmed that Australia assured its support to the Election Commission to help ensure a fair electoral process.
