Atalanta secured a crucial 2-1 win over Roma on Monday, locking in third place in Serie A and guaranteeing their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The victory puts the Bergamo club seven points clear of Juventus and Lazio, with just two matches remaining. With Serie A’s top four earning automatic Champions League qualification, Atalanta can now celebrate a return to Europe’s elite competition.
Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the 9th minute with his 15th league goal of the season, before Roma equalized through ex-Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante, who scored with a well-placed header before halftime.
Ibrahim Sulemana restored Atalanta’s lead in the second half with the decisive goal, securing all three points and sparking celebrations at the Gewiss Stadium.
Despite the defeat, Roma remain in the hunt for European qualification, currently sixth in the table—just one point behind both Juventus and Lazio.
