Asian stock markets posted mixed results on Wednesday as investor momentum from Wall Street waned amid renewed uncertainty over China-U.S. trade talks and the global tariff landscape. While slowing U.S. inflation offered temporary relief, concerns linger over the long-term impact of recently imposed tariffs and unresolved trade agreements.
Former President Trump touted a promising deal with Beijing and major Saudi investments in U.S. sectors like AI and defense, helping U.S. indices climb, with the S&P 500 turning positive for the year. However, this optimism didn’t fully carry into Asia, where markets like Tokyo and Shanghai saw declines, while Hong Kong and several Southeast Asian indexes gained.
Oil prices slipped slightly after a rally, and currency movements remained muted. Analysts warned that despite easing volatility, markets remain vulnerable to further geopolitical and economic shocks as investors await key earnings reports from Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Tencent.
