Brigadier General Humayun Qayyum, commander of the Bangladesh Army’s 72nd Infantry Brigade, has firmly stated that there is no longer any room for sabotage or mob-led violence in the name of politics anywhere in Bangladesh. His remarks came during a meeting with BNP and National Citizens Party (NCP) leaders at the temporary army camp at Rangpur Stadium on Sunday night, following an attack on the residence of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader.
The meeting, held at the initiative of BNP and NCP leaders, focused on addressing the involvement of their party members in the incident. The army officer urged the political leaders to identify those responsible and ensure they do not repeat such acts. In response, BNP and NCP representatives called the attack a “tragic misunderstanding” and pledged to maintain peace moving forward.
Brigadier General Qayyum praised the parties for coming forward voluntarily and emphasized the need for political activities to remain within legal and peaceful boundaries. He stressed that any future attempts at unrest or vandalism would be dealt with strictly but reaffirmed his willingness to work collaboratively with all parties for a harmonious and stable Rangpur—and by extension, the entire country.
He concluded with a call for political maturity, unity, and patriotic responsibility, stating, “Only when rules are broken will I be strict. Otherwise, I will always stand beside you with a smile.”
