Ambani and Adani Announce ₹1.25 Lakh Crore Investment to Transform India’s Northeast

India’s top industrialists, Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, have pledged massive investments totaling ₹1.25 lakh crore in the northeastern region, aiming to reshape its economic future. The announcement came during the Rising Northeast Investor Summit held at Bharat Mandap in New Delhi, marking a major milestone in the Indian government’s push for development in the “Seven Sisters” states.

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced an investment of ₹75,000 crore over the next five years across sectors such as food, consumer goods, healthcare, solar energy, and digital infrastructure. He emphasized expanding Jio’s network coverage from 90% to nearly 100% in the region and promised job creation for 2.5 million people—both directly and indirectly. Ambani also committed to sourcing local products for Reliance Retail and partnering with communities to drive inclusive growth.

Gautam Adani followed with a ₹50,000 crore investment plan over the next decade through the Adani Group, targeting eco-friendly energy, power transmission, smart meters, digital infrastructure, highways, freight logistics, and skills development. Adani underscored the importance of community involvement in every project.

Ambani likened the future of Northeast India to Singapore, stating that with proper investment and digital connectivity, the region can emerge as a powerhouse of industry and innovation.

This ambitious investment push aligns with the Indian central government’s long-term efforts to uplift the Northeast, a region historically underdeveloped but geopolitically vital. The summit was the culmination of a year-long campaign by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and all eight northeastern states to attract private sector participation.
