Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan has acknowledged potential risks of misuse in certain clauses of the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 during a meeting with the protesting Bangladesh Secretariat Employees Unity Forum. The meeting, held at the Secretariat on Sunday, June 1, followed the submission of a formal memorandum by employees demanding the ordinance’s full repeal.
Advisor Kabir stated that while he recognizes the ordinance contains flaws and risks, particularly in how it could be misused, a balanced discussion is necessary. He assured the forum that their concerns would be brought before the Advisory Council, adding, “Your demand for repeal is clear. But we also need to consider whether the ordinance can be safeguarded against misuse, if not repealed entirely.”
The advisor also encouraged the employees to help maintain a positive work environment, even as discussions continue over the future of the ordinance. The Secretariat Employees Unity Forum remains firm in its stance, pushing for complete cancellation of the law, which they argue undermines employee rights and accountability within the civil service.
