In preparation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holiday, long-distance bus operators will begin selling advance tickets from May 16, covering journeys from May 29 through the days leading up to Eid. The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday (May 14), the association’s acting General Secretary, Subhankar Ghosh Rakesh, confirmed that ticket sales will begin this Friday, both online and at physical counters. However, several transport companies have opted to offer tickets exclusively online to streamline the process for passengers.
Rakesh also addressed concerns about pricing, assuring travelers that fares will adhere strictly to the rates approved by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). “No additional charges beyond the fixed fare list will be allowed. All owners have been instructed accordingly,” he said.
Regarding air-conditioned (AC) buses, which drew criticism last Eid for high prices, Rakesh acknowledged the issue. Since the government does not regulate AC bus fares, companies set prices based on the level of luxury offered. “This time, we’ve mutually agreed to keep AC bus fares at a reasonable and tolerable level,” he added.
Passengers planning to travel during the Eid rush are encouraged to purchase their tickets early to avoid last-minute inconveniences.
