Actress Nusrat Faria Granted Bail in Attempted Murder Case Linked to July Uprising

Film actress Nusrat Faria has been granted bail by the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, May 20, after being arrested in an attempted murder case filed at Bhatara Police Station. The case is connected to the July 19 uprising, during which protester Enamul Haque was injured by gunfire near the station and later filed a case naming 283 individuals, including several celebrities and political figures.

Faria was detained at Shahjalal International Airport on May 18 upon her return from Canada, where she had been staying between July 9 and August 14, according to her legal team. Her lawyers argued she could not have been involved in the incident due to being out of the country during the alleged event.

Initially sent to Kashimpur Jail, Faria’s bail was granted following a special petition supported by the police report. The bail will remain in effect until the full investigation report is submitted. Other celebrities named in the case include Apu Biswas, Zayed Khan, and Ashna Habib Bhabna.
