Actress Nusrat Faria Arrested in Attempted Murder Case Despite Being Abroad During Alleged Incident

Actress Nusrat Faria was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday and later arrested in connection with an attempted murder case filed at Bhatara Police Station in Dhaka.

According to case documents, the charges stem from an incident in the Bhatara area that allegedly took place between July and August 2024. The case, filed by a man named Enamul Haque, names 283 individuals—including former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina—alongside 300 to 400 unnamed individuals.

However, flight records and verified social media posts indicate that Nusrat Faria was not in Bangladesh during the period in question. She traveled from Dhaka to Dubai on July 9 and arrived in Toronto on July 10. From July 10 to August 12, she was engaged in concerts and public events across Canada and the U.S., with documentation available on social media and from event organizers. She returned to Dhaka on August 14.

A Calgary-based event organizer confirmed her presence in Canada during this time. Additionally, despite internet disruptions in Bangladesh, Faria remained active on Facebook, expressing concern for the country and staying in touch with her followers. On July 19, she wrote, “It’s been 2 days, there is no internet in Bangladesh. The country is completely isolated… I feel so helpless.” On July 23, she added, “It’s been 6 days since I spoke to my parents… I feel for my fellow students. Wishing everyone peace.”

The arrest has sparked outrage across Bangladesh’s cultural community. Many are calling the case politically motivated, labeling it a “drama” and a “false accusation.”

Faria was sent to jail on Monday. Her bail hearing is scheduled for May 22.
