ACC Finds Discrepancies in Sheikh Hasina’s 2008 Asset Declaration, Recommends Legal Action

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen has revealed that a formal letter has been sent to the Election Commission (EC) recommending legal action against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over discrepancies between her 2008 election asset declaration and her income tax returns.

Speaking at a press conference held at the ACC headquarters on Thursday (May 22), the chairman stated that the commission had found inconsistencies in the financial disclosures submitted by Sheikh Hasina in her affidavit during the 2008 general election.

The ACC has advised the Election Commission to initiate legal proceedings under the ‘Representation of the People Order, 1972’ for allegedly providing false information in her affidavit.

“There are two aspects to this issue,” said Momen. “One part has been referred to the Election Commission, which will take action as per electoral laws. The other part involves the ACC conducting a separate legal process based on our findings, which include comparing the affidavit and income tax documents. That part will take more time.”

The announcement adds a new dimension to legal proceedings involving high-profile political figures and underscores the ACC’s renewed focus on election-related financial transparency.
