Police have submitted a chargesheet against 38 individuals, including ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, for the murder of Chattogram lawyer Saiful Islam Alif. Mahfuzur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police and investigation officer, filed the chargesheet on Tuesday, adding 10 new suspects while dropping three of the original 31 due to insufficient evidence. Assistant Public Prosecutor Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury stated that the court will review the chargesheet for acceptance on Wednesday.
The investigation revealed that Alif was killed in a deliberate conspiracy to incite unrest. Twenty of the accused have been arrested, with three giving confessional statements, while 18 remain absconding. Alif was stabbed to death on November 26 last year during clashes at Chattogram court premises after Chinmoy’s bail plea was rejected in a sedition case, leading to a violent confrontation between his supporters and law enforcement.
