A massive 23-kilometre traffic tailback has formed on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, stretching from Rabna Bypass to the Jamuna Bridge, due to a surge in vehicles, several road accidents, and vehicle breakdowns since Wednesday night.
According to drivers and passengers, traffic on the North Bengal-bound lane began slowing down near Pakulya around midnight before escalating into a severe jam. The situation has been particularly difficult for cattle traders, with hundreds of trucks and pickups carrying sacrificial animals stuck for hours in the heat. Some animals have reportedly fallen ill due to prolonged exposure.
Elenga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sharif attributed the congestion to a combination of high traffic volume, road accidents, and mechanical failures. Efforts are ongoing to ease the jam and restore normal traffic flow.
