104 Sacks of VGD Rice Recovered from BNP Leader’s Warehouse in Jamalpur

Joint forces have recovered 104 sacks of government VGD rice, weighing approximately 5,200 kg, from a warehouse owned by BNP leader Ali Hossain in Sarishabari, Jamalpur. The raid was conducted on Tuesday night (May 20), based on secret information.

The seized rice was intended for the Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) program and was found sealed with government markings. Authorities believe it was being illegally hoarded for black market sale.

Ali Hossain, the warehouse owner and president of Ward No. 8 BNP of Pingna Union, is currently on the run, according to police. He is the son of the late Lal Mahmud of Basuria village.

The late-night operation, carried out around 11:30 PM, was led by Sarishabari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Acting) and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Liza Richil, alongside Army Lieutenant Shaharia Talukder Rifat.

Liza Richil stated, “It appears the rice was being stored illegally for black market distribution. We’ve seized the rice and filed a case. Such operations will continue.”

Sarishabari Police Station OC Md. Rashedul Hasan confirmed that the rice is now in police custody and a regular case has been filed against Ali Hossain. Authorities are actively working to locate and arrest the accused.
