Ten leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal were arrested in Gazipur on Sunday afternoon (May 11) following allegations of demanding Tk 1 million in ransom and issuing death threats to the manager of a local cooperative society. The incident occurred in the Masterbari area of Porabari, Gazipur City.
The accused include prominent local leaders such as Borhan Uddin, Office Secretary of Gazipur Mahanagar Chhatra Dal, and Ismail Hossain, Convener of Mahanagar Jubo Dal, among others from various districts. According to police and local sources, the group allegedly threatened Sohel Rana, the branch manager of Srijani Chokr Bazari Samabaya Samity Limited, after he refused to pay the demanded ransom.
Acting on his complaint, joint forces and Gazipur Sadar Police conducted a raid near the Porabari RAB camp and arrested the suspects, later transferring them to Sadar Police Station. While Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders claimed it was a misunderstanding involving a financial dispute with an NGO, law enforcement officials confirmed that legal proceedings are underway regarding the extortion charges.
